During the hey-dey of designer denim, Brooke Shields proclaimed that “nothing will come between me and my Calvins.”:
Even though I tried to channel her passion, the designer prices kept me far away from the jean line. However, today may be different as the retailer has extended their big sale to last one more day. That day is now and mere mortals can now save 30%-50% off of everything on the Calvin Klein Site.
With the holiday season kicking off in the next couple of days, my thoughts have turned towards rhinestones, sequins and metallic thread and this adorable cropped metallic cardigan sweater on sale for $47.60 would make an excellent addition to my collection:
This cardigan (please note my refusal to call it a “cardi”) can serve double duty. Not only can it be used as a layering piece over a long sleeved t shirt and jeans combo but it will be a perfect wrap for more elegant holiday attire. Either way, the sweater will add a bit of girth to your upper torso perfect for creating balance for a pear shaped figure.
Another piece that will provide visual interest on your fine upper body is this gorgeously sparkling sequined vest ($68.60):
Personally I would skip the graphic shirt promoting the line as this vest is almost festive enough to stand on its own. Of course your ensemble would be further enhanced by mixing in some jewelry by Hurricane by Jane and my choice for a contemporary accent would be the Moon of Mars Necklace ($77):
Silver and gold intertwine so you can mix and match your favorite holiday jewels and totally pull together the look. If you are interested in this piece from my collection or any other item from Hurricane by Jane L.L.C. feel free to contact me directly at HurricanebyJane@gmail.com and you will not be denied.
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, for my pear shaped figure there is nothing like the Sweet-n-Low jeans from Lucky Brand to adorn my curves. Now until November 15, there are three styles of the cut on sale for 40% off the retail price.
My favorite are the dark wash of the Knox option:
The retail price starts at $79.50 but with a 40% discount these jeans becoming an astoundingly low $47.70. Shipping and sales tax will apply.
New York natives and their neighboring counterparts all fondly remember their love affair with Bloomingdale’s in the 70s. The store’s history dates back to the 1800s, but during the 70s the store was a major destination for stars, fashion icons and wanna-bes from Long Island. When the disco generation was large and in charge “Bloomies” (59th street and Lexington) was “the” place to get the look and was a necessary shopping haven for those longing to access Studio 54.
Since then, the retailer has established itself as a one stop shopping Mecca, and with coupon code “BFRIEND” you will receive a 20% discount off of qualified purchases(runs through 11/15). For extra savings, this code can be combined with markdowns and sales already in existence throughout the store and on the website.
Far be it from me to pass on the opportunity to browse a sale and pick out fabulous finds for my pear shaped bodied brethren. The store has so much to choose from including L.A.M.B., Lucky Brand, ABS by Allen Schwartz, Spanx and Alice and Olivia.Bloomingdale’ designer offerings are mind boggling to say the least and you should take the time to peruse your favorites.
Knowing that one could get 20% off and a bonus offer of a $100 gift credit for $500 spent, I would take this moment and a large hunk of my cash to get one of the great coats from Mackage. The Canadian based design house is gifted in the art of creating stylish overcoats, perfect for cold fronts. My choice for keeping warm and showing off my rocking curves is the elegant Mackage Funnel Neck Coat with Corset Belt ($690.00).
No doubt, the belt is the star of the show! The coat itself is composed of a blend of wool, polyamide and cashmere. Boh the corset belt and funnel neck serve utilitarian duty as they will minimize drafts in sensitive areas. The silhouette of this covering is reminiscent of a 1950’s party dress, the best cut for Pear Shapely as it will show off your slender top and easily accommodate your swinging hips. Finally, black is always slimming and will provide you with the most versatility in your wardrobe. Admittedly the coat is pricey, but when it comes to winter wear, the expenses is well justified.
Since it’s humble beginnings as a local shoe store in Seattle Washington, Nordstrom has evolved into a national shopping Mecca! The retailer carries labels such as Diane von Furstenberg, Tracy Reese, BCBG, D&G and Max & Cleo and until November 15 you can stock up on your favorites as their Half-Yearly sale is in full effect. You can choose to either shop in person or shop online at Nordstrom.com.
My thinking is that the holiday season is right around the corner and surely there will be a cocktail party or two that justifies the purchase of a new dress to drape your girly curves. There are plenty of options for pear shaped figures to choose from, but for the money these are my favorites:
The Adrianna Papell Gathered Cutaway Halter Dress ($98.90) is simply gorgeous and will be easy to wear. The port color is divine and flattering to most skin tones, the A-line skirt will accommodate fuller swaying hips while the gathered neckline, halter top will tighten accordingly while accentuating our toned upper torsos.
If you are a size 10 or 12 (the only sizes currently available), don’t bat an eye or you will miss out on this great strapless cocktail dress from Shoshanna ($212):
Shoshanna is known for constructing tops to accommodate the “girls” and hold them in place effortlessly. Chocolate is a flattering neutral, silk and cotton taffeta is a rich fabric and the sweetheart bodice and a short A-line skirt is a classic style that will last for years to come.
Perhaps you want to wrap yourself up like a holiday gift? Then the bow detail on this Ane Klein Dress will fulfill your desire:
The dress comes in both navy/midnight or ruby. The cut is classic with a surplice neck, cinched waist and a full skirt, just perfect for pear shaped figures to luxuriously adorn themselves.
If you want to take advantage of this sale and get a bargain on your holiday ensemble here are some shopping tips to take advantage of the sale:
- Keep it simple-Bejeweled, adorned or patterned dresses may be the trend, but their longevity is short lived as “hot” items become cool very quickly
- Go for quality fabrics- Regardless of the designer label, silk and cotton are much better fabric choices the poly/spandex
- Solid Colors- With a high quality, solid color garment you can wear your dress to a number of events and change the look with great accessories
- Accessories- the right handbag, shoes, wraps and jewelry will complete your look and of course this is my plug for Hurricane by Jane Jewelry.
The best pieces I have for holiday dressing are the Boogie Night Necklace and Constellation Earrings.
