If you are at all like me, you have been waiting ever so patiently for retailers to start discounting to help make their final numbers for 2009. That time is now and fully immersing yourself into the world of discount shopping will help you reap the rewards of fashion finds, perfect for holiday dressing. Bluefly.com is taking an additional 15% off of every item currently on the site and offering free shipping as well.
As usual, the options for great clothing is nearly limitless, but of course my focus is finding options that will compliment pear shaped body types. My first choice is this beautiful graphic silk dress from Hale Bob (today’s price is $165.75).
By pairing this sheath with solid black tights and black boots, pear shaped gals will help contribute to the optical illusion of an elongated figure, slimmer legs and a larger upper torso thanks to the bold patter. The best feature of this dress is the “obi wrap belt along empire waist with leather center” right beneath a plunging v-neck. The belt feature will highlight the narrow waist typically associated with our luscious body shapes while the empty space left by the neckline should be filled with a great piece of Hurricane by Jane Jewelry such as the asymmetrically constructed Lucky Charms Necklace ($94):
Simple earrings and maybe a bold, black, acrylic bangle-bracelet would be the final pieces needed for fully styling this look.
Although this Nanette Lepore blazer would also work with the look , this is great National Velvet jacket ($157.25) is a great centerpiece for any outfit including jeans and pencil skirts:
Velvet is always the lux fabric for the colder months, and since winter has only just begun, you will have plenty of time to get some wear out of this wrapper.
Of course the site has every type of fashion item conceivable and I have only selected 2 great options from a list of thousands. This sale is a limited time offer that is not being heavily promoted on the web. So don’t waste any time thanking me when there are divine and fashionable bargains to be had.
The wonderful thing about accessory shopping is regardless of your body shape or size, you can always find something that works just perfectly. One such item is a great tote bag and Kenneth Cole has some amazing options. Best part about it, 40% discounts and free shipping thanks to the code “SHIPIT.”
Metallics are considered a contemporary neutral, so updating your look with a gold, leather tote has never been easier with the “tote of the town” ($199) option:
The 40% discount will be applied upon check out making this an affordable luxury at around $120. Whether you buy this brilliantly sculpted purse for yourself or as a gift, it is sure to be used day in and day out.
Every one has a fantasy wardrobe composed of a myriad of items that only occasionally get to see the light of day or catch a glimmer of moonlight. But when it comes down it, chances are that we wear or favorite pieces time and time again and that makes up the core of our wardrobes.
To get the most out of their figures and wardrobes, Pear Shapely gals need to have four basic elements on which the rest of their outfits are hinged. It doesn’t matter what color or price point you choose to build the underpinnings of your day-to-day wear as long as the garments fit beautifully and are constructed well.
The four key basic elements for a Pear Shapely wardrobe include:
Bootleg Bottoms: My two favorites are the Editors Pants with cotton from Express and the Shelby Jeans from Lucky Brand Dungarees. Ultimately the cut of the pants will balance out your hips because of the leg widens below the knee and the bottom will have a slight flair
Horizontal Neckline Tops: There are thousands of patterns and styles to choose from but the key is if you are wearing a flared pant, your top should be a bit more fitted or structured to ultimately highlight your whittled middle. One great example is the Windsor Scoop Neck Top on Anthropology ($98):
The neckline will balance out the top, the puckered gatherings in the middle will show off your curves and highlight your smaller waist and the fabric on the length of the top will flatter your hips. Either put a layering t underneath or a cropped cardigan on top and your curves will rock!
Structured Blazer: As long as the piece is not boxy, hits the hipbones and draws the attention of the viewing eye upwards, you will be in excellent shape. If you are only going to buy one blazer this year and do not have a basic black one in your wardrobe then this one from Priorities priced at under $58 will fill the void:
A-line, circle or flared skirts: No Pear Shapely Wardrobe would be complete without this essential item. The frock needs to fit well on top and open up on the bottom to make the most of your shape. Anthropologie has their online skirt section set up by cut so you can pick out your favorite but the one that caught my eye was this beauty in a retro inspired print by Leifsdottir’s:
Of course the work of Hurricane by Jane will go with any and all of the fashions listed above, so why not go and check out for yourself!
Nearly everyone uses their wardrobe as their main means of expressing themselves. Whether someone drapes themselves in designer labels, vintage garb, indie fashion or the infamous khaki pant and blue top ensemble, what you choose to wear is your greatest form of expression.
The key to individual style is being 100% true to yourself, setting your own trends and dressing for you body shape including the lovely Pear Shapely. By using that basic philosophy and not being beholden to one store, designer line or even era you will surely come up with your own unique style.
One of the greatest contributors to this cause is “indie fashion” just like Hurricane by Jane Jewelry. All my pieces are handmade by me, in small batches in fine materials like sterling silver, freshwater pearls and other goodies. One website dedicated to the movement is Mod Cloth and they have tons of excellent fall offerings for curvy gals.
As the temperatures continue to drop, finding great and flattering outwear is a necessity. Pear shapely women need to stay away from such trends as swing coats, boxy shapes or cropped jackets that have no structured shape at the bottom. However, the world of Mod Cloth is filled with a full array of structured coats perfect for pear shaped women that will keep you cozy.
The Madison Jacket ($107.99) is one such delicacy:
Herringbone never goes out of style and with the belted waist and amble coverage for our bottoms, Pear Shapely ladies can easily (and affordably) participate in the trend. The Mobile Earrings would pick up the subtle detail of the gold belt closure on the jacket:
Perhaps you are itching to get a great plaid piece into your Pear Shapely wardrobe, then Union of Plaid jacket ($139.99) would do the trick nicely:
Cinched waist, check! Long and loose enough to provide ample hip coverage, check! Epaulets detail to draw the eye of the viewer to your top and balance out the overall figure effect, major check-a-rooni! Paired with the earrings in silver and gold, you will master the look!
Seriously, Mod Cloth had dozens of styles perfect for fantastic Autumn layering and many of the offerings are well under $200. If you are in the market for a layering piece, do yourself a favor and check this site out for yourself.
Hello fellow curvy girls! Sorry I’ve been off the beaten pear path for the past couple of days, but since I am a responsible, law abiding citizen who answered the call of serving my country in the form of jury duty, it is legally my number one responsibility. Thankfully the LA municipal has free wireless internet and I have a laptop, so you cannot keep a good, Pear Shapely woman down for too long (unless that is exactly what she wants).
Anyway, around LA county and the entire country, the air is chilling and fall fashion is plentiful. Layers are the key to surviving cooler nights, staying fashion savvy and adorable blazers are just the thing wear. Pear Shapely ladies need to be extremely careful in the blazer selection process to avoid fashion mayhem.
Regardless of the color, fabric and price point of your blazer there are several fitting that Pear Shapely ladies need to pay attention too:
- Avoid boxy shapes-look for a blazer with a more feminine cut that cuts in at the waist to accentuate your best feature, your curves
- Shoulder structure-after the linebacker look went out in the 80’s, the words “shoulder pads” were never uttered with the same intent however, a slight hint of padding will help balance your upper torso with your hips
- Length-almost any length blazer can work as long as the other two features are part of the garment
Although there are no shoulder pads in the construction, the ruffle detail combined with the plaid will help balance out your top compared with your bottom and the single button closure will provide the appropriate waist detail.
Depending on your office for work you can pair the garment dark denim jeans and a simple solid top of your choice. If you work in a more creative environment a straight black skirt just above the knee combined with solid black tights and engineer boots would provide an awesome twist.
To top it all off , a bit of bling from Hurricane by Jane L.L.C. Since the jacket makes a bold enough statement on it’s own the simplicity of the Circle Choker ($42) in sterling silver would do the trick and you can feel free to pair it with the stud earrings of your choice:
Are you coveting a particular blazer? If so, feel free to let me know all about as us curvy gals truly need to stick together.
Regardless of the designer label, only natural fibers shall ever grace my body. For me, cotton, silk and fine cashmere are the key elements on which my entire wardrobe are built as frankly, my skin gets irritated by everything else. That is why I have been a fan of LA Designer Hale Bob for years. The line features fantastic prints that are reminiscent of Pucci and many of tops and dresses are constructed of a silk base.
Pear shaped women can certainly benefit from having a few Hale Bob tops in their wardrobes as many of them feature v-neck and cinch detail that will highlight a small ribcage while covering our hips. The key to making this work look for Pear Shapely ladies is pair a flowing top with skinny jeans, that will provide the most balance to the equation.
If you are interested in channelling your inner Bohemian love child, then there are literally hundreds of tops to choose from. However the cut and color combinations of the stretch silk Multi Bohemian Chic V-Neck Top would look amazing with a pair of dark, skinny jeans.
The top is currently on sale for $150 making it a bit more appealing then other offerings on the site and by adding a simple long sleeve black layering t-shirt underneath, the item can be worn through the fall.
Shopping Tip-Those ladies lucky enough to live in LA should stop by Loehmans as they are a major seller of Hale Bob overstock. Tuesday and Thursdays are when new arrivals are put on the floor at both the Burbank and Los Angeles locations and I have several tops that originally retailed at over $200 in the $50-$60 range.
Since the main focus of this look would be on the wildly patterned top, simple jewelry would at the finishing touches. My recommendation would be the Waterfall Necklace ($53) in sterling silver by Hurricane by Jane Jewelry.
The necklace is light and airy and the fine change dangles will certainly compliment the plunging V-neck and the skin that you choose to show.
The finely crafted Crystal Ship Earrings ($41) in Sterling silver would further add to the look.
To add the final bit of bling and fully integrate all the pieces the Crystal Persuasion Bracelet ($49) in sterling silver will seal the deal.
Of course if you are interested in purchasing all three pieces together, contact me directly through my ETSY boutique and I’ll work out a deal just for you.
Those in the “know” visit ShopIntuition.com to be a trend maker not a fashion faker. The company founder, Jaye Hersh is a talented, giving and lovely woman and was kind enough to provide me my first break as a jewelry designer.
Now, courtesy of Hurricane by Jane L.L.C. you can purchase the identical jewelry featured at ShopIntuition.com at wholesale prices. Just click through to buy any of the pieces listed below and know that you are getting the same designer wares and quality of a premier Hollywood boutique, frequented by stars such as Katy Perry, Lauren Conrad and Taylor Swift.
The overall best selling piece for the store and myself through private sales is the Golden Triple Strand Necklace ($48). This necklace is also available in Sterling Silver ($42) and is probably the best necklace to get a fashionable friend as a birthday or holiday gift.
The rest of the Shop Intuition collection include the Silver and Gold Multitasker Necklace ($74):
Floating Leaf Earrings ($42):
The Duotastic Bracelet ($52):
The great thing about these pieces and the entire Hurricane by Jane collection is that they are all designed to work with each other, kind of like a “Garanimal” line for women of sophisticated taste. If you are interested in buying more then one of the pieces from the Shop Intuition collection or from any other work I have, just feel free to contact me directly though my ETSY boutique and I’ll be happy to work out a deal, especially for you!
Some may question my choice of writing about the best swim wear for Pear Shapely ladies on the first day of October. But if you are like me, I find the task of locating a cute, flattering and well fitting swim suit a year-long task and wanted to give y’all a head start on your 2010 season.
By far the best and easiest shopping experience comes courtesy of the “Build Your Own Bikini Shop” on Newport News. Dozens of combos can be made, so you can pick and choose the fabrics and cuts that work best for your particular figure and taste. My favorite summer selection of this year was built from the “High Contrast” collection.
For this option I selected the Shape fx® Bust-Enhancing Hardcup Top combined with the Shape fx® Concealing Skirted Bottom.
Yes, I have curves, but my stomach is awesome and deserves to see the light of day! If you feel the same you will be glad to know that these items are now on sale for $19 for the top and $24 for the bottom.
Shopping Tip-The best time to shop for any seasonal item (including winter coats, boots, air conditioners and swim wear) is off season as that is when consumers will benefit from the steepest discounts. As a Pear Shapely lady, I truly do not care if the pattern of my swimsuit follows the latest trend as fit is the number one factor for me. The only downside through shopping at Newport News are the shipping costs as if you do not like the fit you will be responsible for paying both the initial and return shipping charges. With that in mind you should consider:
- Buying a large selection of swimsuits to justify the costs of shipping
- Measure yourself with a tape measure and follow the sizing charts posted
- Be at least 95% sure of the purchase you are going to make
- Sign up for email blasts from the company as they sometimes will send discounts via email
- Check out Retail Me Not to see what online discount codes they may have for the site
My main goal of a swim suit is swimming, but it does not mean that a girl cannot properly glam up the look. On that note, Hurricane by Jane offers a great styling piece for two-piece looks called the Crystal Multitaskers in both sterling silver and gold filled.
Both these pieces are handcrafted by me, feature 28 dangling teardrop briolette crystals and measure a whopping 36″ long. The dainty clasp allows these pieces to be worn in a number of ways including as a waist chain or anklet for the skin bearing months. No need to wait for summer for this purchase as this piece also makes an excellent long necklace, double wrapped neck decor or bracelet either for yourself or for a gift for your loved one.
Please feel free to contact me through my ETSY boutique if you have any questions regarding purchasing pieces from the Multitasker Collections. I am more then happy to customize the length of this and all jewelry I make.
As soon as the season changes, Pear Shapely women may need a quick reminder on how to best adorn their curves. Thanks to the Today Show segment that aired on 10/1 “Triangle” ladies (AKA Pear Shapely) get their simple reminder. The ultimate lesson learned is to balance out your figure, but we knew that already!
